Their Christmas party proved successful, snd the ju niors are being taught folk danc ing and singing. Illahee For First Citizen Governor Paul L. Patterson will be the principal speaker at Wednesday night's banquet at the Marion Hotel when Salem's first citizen of 1852 will be re cognized and honored. Dinner tickets are being sold at the chamber of commerce, the organization that initiated the program four years ago. The initial first citizen was C. A. Sp-tgue. He was followed by Robert L. Elfstrom and in 1952 by W. L. Phillips. The lat ter will introduce the 1953 top man after he has been informed of the person's identity a short time before the program start. Selection of the first citizen i made on democratic lines by a committee whose membership is not disclosed. This committee holds several meetings, deliberat ing over the names submitted.
